End of School Year 2020-2021

As the school year has come to a close, there are a few things we would like to highlight. To begin with, we would like to emphasize that our classes are more than just learning English. Beyond just the classroom, these women feel empowered and overwhelmed with their ability to communicate together. By learning English, they expressed and handled their strength, something they weren’t capable of when they first came to the US. A transition made possible by IHP that each individual is beyond grateful for. Some even tell us how it changed the course of their lives. It was beautiful to hear the stories and experiences of each of the immigrant women. It showcased the impact IHP had on their progress and how English allows people to find their voice in a new society. Women who started with no English are now presenting in front of other participants and their teachers. Other women found professional jobs to empower themselves and their families.

Latré Sibi Lawson Owanda, an Accountant of the Student Government Business Office at USM says: “I am who I am because of In Her Presence and I am working again in my field because of the help of In Her Presence”.

Justine Mugabo, a participant in the English for Business and IHP board member says, “There is something I want to clarify, In Her Presence is not only helping women but it is helping everyone through women. They help our children, our husbands, and even our neighbors. Through IHP, I met a lawyer who helped my sons get a green card and I am very grateful”.
